Human trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery. Victims of human trafficking are subjected to force, fraud, and coercion, for the purpose of sexual exploitation or forced labor. Victims are young children, teenagers, men and women, U.S. citizens and foreign immigrants.

Human trafficking takes place in, but not limited to, the commercial sex industry, domestic situations, sweatshop factories, construction, nail salons, massage parlors, farming or landscaping, fisheries, hotels, tourist industries, cantinas and ice houses, and restaurant services. Most of the time victims of human trafficking suffer from physical and mental abuse and are always accompanied by someone. If you suspect someone is a victim, here are some identifying questions to ask:

Can you leave your job if you want? Have you and your family been threatened? Where do you sleep and eat? What is your working and living conditions like? Do you have to ask permission to eat, sleep, or go to the bathroom?
