During the month of September, Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition will host a series of awareness events and trainings as part of its 5th
Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Month. This year's theme is "I Fight for Freedom." Please join us as we explore the different ways that each of us can fight for freedom in our daily lives. Human Trafficking Awareness Month Press Conference

Join us as we kick-off Human Trafficking Awareness Month 2011: “I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM”. Come and hear advocates from across the city and various sectors speak out about the prevalence of human trafficking in our city and what they are doing to combat it and return victims to freedom. HRRC will be receiving a proclamation signed by the Mayor of Houston officially declaring the month of September as Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
Big Dipper Dash 5K Fun Run/Walk

HRRC will be starting Human Trafficking Awareness Month with its 2nd
Annual Big Dipper Dash 5K Fun Run/Walk, an evening event that pays homage to the slaves of old who escaped by running North to freedom following the stars, like the Big Dipper, which pointed to freedom. Join HRRC to honor those who once looked to the stars for their chance for freedom and those who still do today.
Human Trafficking Film Series – Every Tuesday in September
The Human Trafficking Film Series is a weekly event taking place each Tuesday night during the month of September. Each Tuesday will highlight a different type of trafficking through separate films, special guest speakers, and calls to action. Each film will be hosted in a different location and will be free and open to the public. Faith and Freedom Weekend – September 15th – 18th
Join HRRC for Faith and Freedom Weekend as we unite all communities of faith in combating modern day slavery. Events will be held throughout the weekend where discussions about the appropriate response of faith communities to human trafficking will take place. HRRC encourages all faith communities to create a spiritual teaching which addresses the issue of modern day slavery to their congregation and to join us as we all gather to discuss this issue at our Interfaith Service on September 18th at Rothko Chapel. Fair Trade Scavenger Hunt
What: Search the Houston area for fair trade products and raise awareness about the availability of fair trade in our city
Where: Those who register will be sent a list of locations on September 19 of retailers in Houston that have reported to carry fair trade items in their store. You will be asked to visit a set number of locations and itemize what fair trade items they do have and how many.
When: September 19 - 25
Who: A great event for all ages, create a team with your family and friends!

Texas Abolitionist Workshop
What: An opportunity for communities across the state of Texas to acquire the tools and resources needed to establish anti-human trafficking coalitions
Where: Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Ave, Houston, TX 77002
When: September 24, 2011, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Who: We ask that participants already have a basic understanding of human trafficking before attending the workshop.

This workshop is an opportunity for abolitionists to learn techniques and strategies for creating successful coalitions and engaging their communities in the fight against modern-day slavery. HRRC truly believes that the first step in combating modern day slavery is an aware and informed community. HRRC along with experts from across the country will impart our knowledge about the issue to participants in hopes to create a broader, more dynamic modern abolitionist movement
I SHOP for Freedom
What: Learn more about fair trade and support your favorite fair trade vendors all in one location!

HRRC has invited a variety of Houston-area fair trade and "made by survivors" vendors to display their products at our annual Shop Smart Event. HRRC will also host a mini seminar on the fair trade movement, labor trafficking and the type of consumerism that fuels it.
