Faith and Freedom Weekend 2011

June 16, 2011 | by Phil

I PRAY for Freedom…

SECOND ANNUAL

As part of Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition’s 5th Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Month we will host our annual Faith and Freedom Weekend:  September 15th – 18th, 2011.   Faith and Freedom Weekend is an interfaith initiative uniting synagogues, mosques, churches, temples and all centers of faith to stand for freedom by dialoguing and acting to raise awareness of the injustice and inhumanity of human trafficking. With millions living in slavery around the world, communities of faith can play a key role in liberating these individuals by uniting for freedom. HRRC will be hosting three events during the weekend which are all open to the public.

Create Your Own Event

In addition, we hope faith communities from across the Greater Houston Area will create their own event to raise awareness within their congregation during this weekend. This can take a variety of forms such as a Bible study, a sermon on the topic of trafficking, a bulletin insert on the issue, a newsletter or website announcement, a candlelight vigil, an offering to benefit an anti-trafficking organization or other event as relevant to the community.  HRRC has developed numerous resources to help guide and assist you in creating a successful event from Bulletin Inserts to Prayer Cards.

How to Participate

We simply ask that a representative from the faith community visit our Faith and Freedom Pledge Page, to register what will be happening and then return after the event to update with pictures, copies of printed materials, or a short written synopsis so that the entire Greater Houston Area can see what each other is doing to make a difference in the modern day abolitionist movement. We encourage both individuals and communities of faith to partner with HRRC and be the voice for the voiceless and the advocate for the oppressed.  Once you have made your pledge HRRC will send you the appropriate resources for your event.
